Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Job Specialty: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour nights Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week Experience: 3 years of ICU experience, with 6 months med/surg experience License: WY or compact license Certifications: BLS, ACLS required; PALS or ENPC preferred Must-Have: Ability to float to med/surg and ER as required Job Description: - Provide direct and indirect professional nursing care for patients in the Intensive Care Unit. - May work in other units as oriented/assigned, including med/surg and emergency room tasks. - Determine priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs. - Communicate effectively with physicians about changes in patients' clinical conditions. - Respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or responses to treatment. - Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring, correctly identify dysrhythmias, and treat according to ACLS protocol. - Provide basic airway management using various techniques and suctioning. - Function competently during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. - Deliver care to patients with compromised nutritional/metabolic statuses and those requiring fluid and electrolyte management. - Assess and care for patients in the immediate post-anesthesia period. - Use critical thinking skills to assess and intervene in critical situations until a physician is present. - Assist with the orientation of new employees to the ICU. - Maintain department competencies and assist physicians with bedside procedures. - Utilize equipment such as Phillips monitors and Stryker beds for patient care. - Adhere to dress code by wearing Caribbean blue scrubs.
